SCIENCE PHOTOGRAPHY

THE BEAUTY OF SCIENCE PHOTOGRAPHY IS THAT IT PRODUCES IMAGES AND VIDEOS THAT THE HUMAN EYE WOULD OFTEN MISS.

Science photography is a highly specialised field that uses intricate equipment, technology and expertise.  Photographers are skilled in photo-imaging techniques such as infrared, ultraviolet, time-lapse, thermal imaging and micrography (a camera attached to a microscope).  Scientific or medical data is captured on film at the precise moment – which is often a gap that lasts a fraction of a second.

Science photographers have a thorough knowledge of physics, optics and non-standard photographic techniques.  They need to play very close attention to detail and be precise with their data records.  When taking multiple shots through a microscope, for example, every image needs to be recorded perfectly to ensure scientific accuracy. With a team of expert photographers, Kaimara is able to record experiments and illustrate any scientific information visually. We emphasise the subject and purpose of the image in addition to creating a beautiful shot.

Scientific photographs can be used for measurement and analysis or as part of a research report or magazine article.  There is virtually no limit to the range of subject matter in science photography and can include high-speed events (such as an explosion) or extreme close-up work.  Remote cameras are often used to capture images that no human in the vicinity ever could.
